SAFETY OFFICER ( NOS 25 )

Description

The role of an HSE Officer holds remarkable importance across industries that rely on strict safety protocols, structured operational standards, and well-defined environmental procedures. Positioned at the core of an organization’s safety framework, an HSE Officer ensures that workplace activities align with national regulations and international safety guidelines. Their presence helps reduce operational hazards, prevent incidents, and strengthen the organization’s reputation for reliability. By guiding employees, monitoring daily work conditions, and enforcing safety rules, these professionals create a workplace culture where responsibility and awareness are shared values. In high-risk sectors such as oil and gas, industrial maintenance, petrochemical plants, and large construction projects, the contribution of an HSE Officer becomes essential to sustaining safe and uninterrupted operations.

Key Responsibilities

In day-to-day operations, an HSE Officer focuses on observing work processes, identifying unsafe behaviors, and recommending corrective actions to eliminate risks before they escalate. They conduct regular site inspections, update management on safety findings, and ensure that every activity follows approved permits and safety standards. Their responsibilities extend to organizing toolbox talks, coordinating safety drills, and ensuring compliance with personal protective equipment rules. When an incident occurs, the HSE Officer leads investigations to determine root causes and develops preventive measures to avoid reoccurrence. Additionally, they collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and contractors to maintain transparent communication on safety expectations, ensuring that the entire team remains aligned with company and regulatory requirements.

Skills and Knowledge

To perform effectively, an HSE Officer must possess strong analytical skills, deep awareness of hazard-control strategies, and a firm understanding of safety regulations. Formal qualifications such as NEBOSH, Safety Diplomas, or equivalent certifications significantly strengthen their expertise. Experience working in environments like SABIC, petrochemical sites, or heavy industries enhances their ability to handle safety challenges with confidence. Essential skills include communication, leadership, observation, and strong documentation abilities. An ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, awareness, focus, and the ability to handle pressure in fast-paced environments. A relevant degree, combined with practical exposure, enables the HSE Officer to guide teams effectively and maintain a consistently safe work atmosphere.
